Mandatory State Law Obligations for International Visitors

In accordance with Article 51-Octies of the Law of Rights of the State of Quintana Roo, all foreign visitors entering the state are required to pay a fee called VISITAX for the use or exploitation of public real estate within Quintana Roo. This requirement does not apply to those who enter through the state's southern border. VISITAX is required irrespective of the mode of exit from the state, and failure to pay constitutes a serious infraction under Article 51-Octies, which may affect your ability to travel freely in the state.

NOTICE: VISITAX agents are now present in all terminals at Cancun airport, arrivals and departures, and in the secure areas airside. They are clearly recognizable and you must STOP if approached.

When traveling to the state of Quintana Roo in Mexico, it is now mandatory to pay VISITAX and obtain a QR code as evidence of payment prior to leaving the state.   • Visitax is a RIGHT that is collected by the State of Quintana Roo, it is available income, which in terms of article 25 of the Expenditure Budget for fiscal year 2024, must be allocated to the concepts mentioned in article 14 of the Law of Financial Discipline of the States and Municipalities.

  • The Visitax fee is set by law at 2.5 U.M.A., equivalent to 271 Mexican pesos.   • There is no age exemption, all foreign visitors need to pay the tax. The only people who are exempt from Visitax are Mexican Citizens, individuals with the appropriate permanent/temporary residency status(allowed to stay over 180 days) and those entering from the southern border.
